Environments
Sandbox and production share one host. Your key selects the environment.
| Environment | Key prefix | whoami returns | Money |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sandbox | sk_test_ | test | Simulated |
| Production | sk_live_ | live | Real |
Both use the same base URL, so moving to production means changing the key, not the host:
https://api.payinto.co/api/v1/businessSandbox data is stored separately from live data. Customers, accounts, and transfers you create with a test key don't exist in production.
What's different in the sandbox
- Accounts start funded. Your sandbox main account opens with a test balance.
- Transfers and bill payments succeed immediately and use simulated bank and biller responses.
- Bulk transfers run on the sandbox ledger. They're queued and processed like live ones, and they pay simulated recipients.
- Schedules run on the sandbox ledger at their scheduled times.
- Identity and BVN checks return simulated data. Don't test matching logic against them.
- Payinto Tags resolve to sandbox recipients only.
- Deposits are simulated. Use API Keys & Webhooks in the dashboard's test environment to send a test deposit to a virtual account.
Shared across environments
The VAS catalog and the bank list are also shared across environments, because they are read-only reference data.
Going live
- Ask Payinto to enable the live environment and the modules you need.
- Add your servers' outbound IP addresses to your live key's allowlist.
- Register your production webhook URL and secret.
- Replace
sk_test_withsk_live_in your server's configuration. - Call
GET /whoamiand confirm it returnsenvironment: "live".
